Our instructional design process aligns your team with accessible, inspiring, and practical learning solutions

We’ll work closely with you to craft learning materials that speak directly to your audience—and motivate them to keep learning.

To do this, we’ve adapted our instructional design process, which allows us to tailor training to meet your exact needs, with many opportunities for you to share feedback. It’s an agile approach that enables us to be efficient as we create your custom learning experience. And with ongoing, regular communication, you’ll always know exactly where we are in the development process.

The AligneDesigns Instructional Design Process

Our process framework ensures that even the most complex project is broken down into manageable steps. This enables us to be nimble and responsive during the development process—which saves you time and gets your learners learning faster!

With every project, we seek to understand your organization, your learners, and their challenges so we can customize your training to meet your exact needs.

For every learning solution, we approach the topic from the learner’s point of view. We immerse ourselves in your learning ecosystem and consider both the organization’s needs and learner needs. At the same time, we do a deep dive into the topic and identify “sticky spots” and pain points. We’ll use innovative and evidence-based approaches to create a design plan that shows you exactly how and where content will be covered. During this phase, we’ll discuss branding and provide mock-up templates to use for content and visual aids.

Then, it’s over to you for review. We’ll walk you through our proposed design and answer any questions you might have.

Once you provide your feedback, we’ll revise as needed and move into development.

This is where the agile feedback cycle comes in!

We’ll develop a small chunk of your learning solution as a prototype. This could be a lesson, a module, or 15 minutes of training. You’ll have the chance to review it and provide feedback. We’ll revise according to your feedback. Then we’ll test the learning chunk with a small audience and adapt based on their feedback.

From there, we rinse and repeat until all of the content is complete.

Once your learning materials are complete, it’s time to launch! We’ll provide you with the finalized training content. We’ll be there to answer any questions that come up as you deliver your training.

If needed, we can also support you during the implementation—troubleshooting technical issues and training your team on how to add the content to your Learning Management System.

We also offer post-launch evaluation to assess how effective the learning experience was so your learners get the most out of their training.

We create brand new learning solutions and refresh existing training for organizations across Canada. Want to learn more about our services? Discover our services and training delivery modes, including face-to-face, virtual training and hybrid!

Frequently Asked Questions

ADDIE is an instructional design framework to develop training that’s traditionally made up of five steps:

  • Analysis
  • Design
  • Development
  • Implementation
  • Evaluation

We’ve modified the framework to include plenty of agile feedback opportunities, which helps us to better align with our clients’ objectives.

Educational Technology, or EdTech, refers to the tools that Instructional Designers use to facilitate learning. This can include using augmented reality and virtual reality to create immersive and engaging lessons, using a Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver the learning, and using web apps like Articulate Rise, software like Storyline.

With over 15 years of experience in the Canadian education sector, our Senior Instructional Designer will be your expert guide in selecting the EdTech that will help you achieve your training objectives. For more information on Brittany, please check out her bio.

Synchronous and asynchronous learning are two separate approaches to training.

Synchronous learning takes place in real-time through face-to-face sessions, online classes and webinars. It follows a structured schedule and allows for immediate feedback shared among participants and instructors.

Asynchronous learning is self-paced, allowing learners to access materials and resource at their own convenience. Content is delivered through a variety of formats, and interaction among learners and instructors takes place via discussion boards, chats, and other formats.

Hybrid learning combines self-paced educational materials and real-time sessions.

The term “agile” comes from the software project management world, where it refers to the iterative approach developers take to incorporate customer feedback into their work. The term was adopted by instructional designers to refer to our iterative process that includes multiple client feedback cycles. We find that using an agile approach makes the instructional design process more efficient—saving our clients time and money. As well, our clients appreciate the opportunity to review learning materials as we develop them.

Every project is different, and so every project timeline is also different. The timeline depends on the length of the training, the amount of source material provided (or research required), and amount of time the Subject Matter Experts (SME) can devote to providing timely feedback.

If you have a project in mind and want to get a sense of timelines, let’s align! Contact us to book a complimentary discovery call to go over all the details.

The term “delivery modes” refers to how training takes place. For example, it may be face-to-face (F2F) in a classroom or synchronous virtual environment, or it may be eLearning that’s delivered asynchronously. Finally, the hybrid mode combines F2F and virtual learning.

At AligneDesigns, we offer all three delivery modes. The good news is, you don’t need to know which delivery mode you want to use. If you’re uncertain which delivery mode is best for your organization’s learning objectives or you have something else in mind, we’re always happy to talk.
