The Food Sharing Project

The Student Nutrition Program

The Food Sharing Project received a grant to create training to support the role of School Nutrition Program Coordinators (SNPs) in schools within the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington County.

SNPs are school staff who are given the task of running the Student Nutrition Program but are rarely afforded relief time to deliver the program. The training needed to be high-impact, practical, and time-efficient. High level information about the program, role of SNPs, and strategies for program delivery are covered. Learners are provided resources, tools, and how-to-videos that can be accessed in a just-in-time fashion as required by SNPs as they learn how to administer the program.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Summarize The Student Nutrition Program and why it is integrated into schools.
  • Design a Student Nutrition Program that adheres to the Canada Food Guide and program nutrition guidelines.
  • Use WebTracker to place food orders and report on meal and volunteer data.
  • Apply safe food handling practices as required by the Ministry of Health.
